James Toney just can't get enough of the roids'

Three-time champion, James Toney tested positive for two different types of steroids after his victory over Danny Batchelder, who also tested positive for two different types as well. This is the second time that Toney's test have came back positive and it could mean a one-year suspension from boxing.

"Toney tested positive for boldenone and stanazolol, and Batchelder tested positive for stanazolol and oxandolone, Garcia said. If they don't appeal, the boxers would be suspended one year from the date of their fight."

Despite both fighters testing positive, the California State Athletic Commission's executive officer, Armando Garcia said that the fight will still count. Toney won the fight with a split decision and his impressive yet tainted record improved to 70-6-3 with 43 knockouts while Batchelder's now stands at 25-5-1 with 12 knockouts.

The first time Toney tested for steroids was two years ago when he tested positive for nandrolone, and it cost him a victory over WBC heavyweight champion John Ruiz. That fight was ruled a "no-contest".

Diego Corrales killed at the age of 29.

Diego "Chico" Corrales was killed Monday night, he was only 29 years old. Corrales was in a motorcycle accident and was reportedly going at least 100 mph and he slammed into the back of a car. He was wearing a helmet at the time of his fatal crash.

Corrales won four world titles in his 11-year career, two at junior lightweight and two at lightweight. He was also in one of the greatest fights in boxing history, when he fought Jose Luis Castillo in an epic battle in May 7th, 2005. Corrales and Castilla's epic battle was named the fight of the year and it was well deserved. Castillo knocked "Chico" down twice in the 10th round before Corrales came-from-behind and knocked Castillo out in the final round. It was by far the most dramatic finishes I've ever seen.

A spokesman for the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department confirmed that there had been a fatal motorcycle accident in the southwest part of the city at approximately 7:20 p.m. PT, but he would not identify the person killed.

"All we know is that he was riding on his bike, and they say he was going 100 mph and hit the back of a car," said Jin Mosley, the wife of welterweight star Shane Mosley and a close friend of Michelle Corrales, Diego's wife.

Corrales finished his 11-year career with a 40-5 record with 33 knockouts. He is survived by his wife, four children and a step-daughter.

Credit for this story goes to the Mighty MJD over at the Fanhouse. There is also a video of the final round of the Corrales/Castillo bout after the jump.

Mayweather vs De La Hoya

For those of you that weren't able to watch the "Fight that will save Boxing" for whatever reason here you go, all 12 rounds. You better watch it now, because I don't know how long they will be up.

Saturday night fever

I didn't get to watch a lot of sports last night, just about 5 hours of boxing, so I missed the Braves game, I missed the Rockets/Jazz game seven, the Bulls/Pistons game one blowout and the Kentucky Derby, well I chose to miss that. Here's a quick wrap-up of the day that was Cinco De Mayo.

Braves fall to the Dodgers, 6-3.

It had a great match-up of groundball pitchers who were both plain filthy, but Derek Lowe was just a little bit better than Tim Hudson. Lowe pitched 7.0 innings, giving up just three hits and one earned run and after the game Braves rightfielder, Jeff Francoeur said "That's the nastiest stuff I've seen since I've been up". Hudson went eight strong innings and gave up seven hits and three earned runs and received his first loss on the season. In the eighth inning Wilson Betemit, who was benched, hit a pinch-hit homerun, it was the first homerun Hudson had allowed in 47.0 innings.

WP: Derek Lowe(3-3)
LP: Tim Hudson(3-1)
SV: Takashi Saito(9)

HR: LAD- Wilson Betemit(1)

Street Sense comes back from 19th all the way to win the Derby.

Street Sense was in second to last a mile into the Kentucky Derby before kicking it into another gear and blowing past all other horses and finally overtaking Hard Spun, who was in first. Along with his Jockey, Calvin Borel, Street Sense won by more than two lengths to capture the $2,210,000 first prize.

The Rockets and Jazz series started with tears and it ended with tears.

The Utah Jazz defeated the Houston Rockets, 103-99 to win the deciding game seven Saturday night. Utah's Carlos Boozer had an amazing game, in which he scored 35 points, 14 rebounds and 5 assists, Boozer became only the third player to ever score that many points and that many rebounds in a deciding game on the road, but unlike Patrick Ewing in 1997 and Dolph Schayes in 1959, Boozer's team came out victorious. Andrei Kirilenko was crying before the series started about not getting enough playing time I guess and after game seven a very emotional Tracy McGrady blamed this loss on him and him alone. This is the seventh time that T-Mac failed to get out of the 1st round and the second straight year his team lost the series after starting 2-0.

Larry Merchant is the slowest man in the world!

HBO's special analyst, Larry Merchant
has to be the most boring/slowest talking man in the whole fucking world. I fell asleep seven times before he got to the fucking point he was trying to make and even then it had nothing to do with what was going on and then you add in the equally as slow talker, Floyd Mayweater Sr and you have the most unbearable interview possible.

After both teams sweep in the first round, Pistons show Bulls who is number one.

The Detroit Pistons and Chicago Bulls both swept their respected teams in the first round of the playoffs and with the Bulls beating the defending Champions handedly I assumed they would hang tough with the Pistons. Well I was wrong, the Pistons defeated the Bulls, 95-69 in a completely one-sided blowout. Detroit played great defense, very similar to that of their championship season a few years ago and with Richard Hamilton and Chauncey Billups playing as well as the did and then you add Jason Maxiell, who was stellar off the bench, the Pistons are going to be very hard to beat.

Late rounds keep the Pretty Boy's record unblemished

Floyd Mayweather Jr defeated Oscar De La Hoya tonight by a split decision to remain a perfect 38-0. It was a pretty entertaining fight and although De La Hoya didn't win, he looked great in the early and middle rounds, but it was said that stamina would have a factor in this fight and it definitely did. Oscar really started showing signs of wearing down. I personally thought that Mayweather won the fight unanimously but there are reasons why i'm not a judge.

De La Hoya definitely pressed the fight, backing "Pretty Boy" into the ropes many times and pounding him with body shot after body shot, all of which didn't have a huge effect. The crowd was, i'd say about 90-95% in favor for Oscar and they showed it whenever one of the many barrage of punches by De La Hoya. I've seen Mayweather fight a few times and each time he impresses me more and more with his excellent accuracy and speed, the guy is seriously untouchable at times. After the fight Mayweather said he has every attention at retiring, and all though he sounded sincere, I highly doubt he will call it quits, he loves the sport and the spotlight way too much to give it up. And he's only 30 years old. I have a strong feeling neither one of these champions are done yet and on a side note, Oscar De La Hoya's wife, Millie, is fucking beautiful.

Punch Track:

De La Hoya: Thrown- 587 Landed- 122 Accuracy- 20.7%

Mayweather: Thrown- 481 Landed- 207 Accuracy- 43%

Busy day

It's been a busy day for me so far, but i'll have a couple of posts up soon, but I will be live blogging the Oscar De La Hoya vs Floyd Mayweather Jr fight tonight.
