Dolphins sign Ted Ginn

It is now being reported by the Sun- that the deal that had been reached between Ginn and the Dolphins earlier is a reported five-year deal that is worth $13 million guaranteed.

Barely missing the noon deadline for all players to report on the first official day of training camp, Dolphins first-round draft pick Ted Ginn Jr. agreed to terms on a five-year contract with the Dolphins, according to one source.

The Dolphins also chose not to comment, but another source confirmed that Ginn received approximately $13 million in guaranteed money.

The contract is expected to be signed shortly. All signed players were expected to attend a team meeting at 1 p.m., and the second source said Ginn was there. Practice begins tomorrow at 8:30 a.m. and Ginn is expected to be there.

Breaking News: Trent Green traded to the Dolphins

After almost three months of trade negotiations the Kansas City Chiefs finally broke down and agreed to trade disgruntled quarterback, Trent Green to the Miami Dolphins in exchange for a 2008 fifth-round draft pick that could become a fourth-rounder if he hits playtime incentives.

Green, who turns 37 in July, will be allowed to participate in this weekend's Dolphins minicamp that begins on Friday, where he will battle it out with Dolphin's quarterback, Daunte Culpepper for the rights as the teams starting QB. It seems as though Culpepper isn't completely healthy from his knee injury and if that is true then Green would be the starter with Cleo Lemon as his backup and Dolphin's second round draft pick, John Beck serving as the third string option.

Culpepper is not going to be happy about this news, as just a few days ago he told reporters that if the Dolphins did indeed add Green to their roster he would ask to be traded or released. He also came out publically saying that he is the quarterback of this team until someone tells him otherwise.

"I hear things but it doesn't really matter who says what," Culpepper said in response to the umpteenth question about Green possibly becoming a Dolphin. "For anybody to come in here and think this is going to be peaches and cream, it's not. "They've told me the same thing they've always told me: Do your job. I'm the quarterback of this team until somebody tells me different."

Ahh, the plot thickens...

I uh...I'm speechless

Words can't describe what i'm seeing right now, the Miami Dolphin's version of "Can't touch this" by M.C. Hammer. The irony is, Davey, who is a major dolphin's fan just posted something that mentioned M.C. Hammer in a post a few days ago. All dolphin fans should now lower their heads in shame.

I'm the juggernaut, BITCH!!!

Here's another video of a recent 2007 NFL Draft pick by the Miami Dolphins. This video comes courtesy of the great Deadspin.com and it's of the Dolphin's sixth round draft pick, fullback Reagan Mauia formally with the Hawaii Rainbow Warriors. Are they still referred to the "rainbow warriors" or is it just the warriors, well until I can confirm that let's just go with Rainbow Warriors.

Oh and here's Samson Satele's Draft Day party in Hawaii, he was the the Dolphin's second round draft pick.

I don't know why i'm posting so many videos of the Dolphin's draft picks, but don't worry the Bengal's are on the way.

One more thing, I'M THE JUGGERNAUT, BITCH!!!

Ted Ginn Jr, is umm...really fast

Ted Ginn Jr, would like everyone to know that he is really fast, i'm talking Devin Hester fast. Here is a nice little highlight video of Ginn's, well, highlights.

See Miami, it might not be so bad after all, that is if his foot recovers soon.

Marcus Vick is unemployed again.

The Miami Dolphins aren't done cleaning house yet, they just released the one player that would bring them back to glory help them take over the league lead in team arrests. Today the Dolphins released Marcus Vick, who was mostly on the team's practice squad, but did manage to make one appearance for the Phins, week 15 against the New York Jets.

Vick, signed last season as a free agent receiver after a troubled career as Virginia Tech's quarterback, was among three players waived by the Dolphins on Tuesday.

Vick was kicked off Virginia Tech's team following his junior year after repeated brushes with the law and other misbehavior. Last December, a 17-year-old girl who claimed she had a two-year sexual relationship with Vick filed a $6.3 million lawsuit against him, alleging sexual battery upon a minor, infliction of emotional distress, fraud and other charges.

Vick also stomped on current Denver Broncos defensive end, Elvis Dumervil back in 2006 during the Gator Bowl. In which the Hokies made an impressive comeback, just thought i'd throw that in there. It isn't known right now, but I would be surprised to see him back on a team's roster anytime this year, he had a great junior season at Tech, but hasn't really shown much that would leave teams to believe he could be a solid number four receiver at best. Some team with special team problems could take a chance on him, but I just don't know.

Breaking News: The Houston Texans have released David Carr.

According to ESPN's, Michael Smith is reporting that the Houston Texans have released quarterback, David Carr. This makes no sense to me, obviously they were going to get rid of him one way or another, but David Carr still had some value, they could have traded him for at least a late round draft pick, 5th or later to a team like Miami, Oakland or Cleveland.

Now I expect Miami to end the talks with acquiring veteran quarterback, Trent Green from the Kansas City Chiefs in exchange for a 2007 7th round pick and just sign Carr. The Dolphins are still $10M under the salary cap but you have to anticipate at least $5M going to sign draft picks, so about $5M, and that is more than enough to sign Carr.

Since being the #1 overall pick in 2002, David Carr hasn't been the player he was projected to be. Now say what you want to about him, I think he still can be a solid starter in the NFL if he can find a team with a decent offensive line. He has been able to put up decent enough numbers in Houston despite being put on his ass hundreds of times throughout his career in Houston. Houston's offensive line has been horrible and I feel that played a big part on why Carr has been a failure in NFL thus far. Let him move onto Miami where their offensive line is better than Houston's and lets see what he can do. Last season, David Carr threw for 2,767 yards, 11 touchdowns and 12 interceptions and 2 rushing touchdowns.

The possibility of Green to the Dolphins is "still likely".

According the Palm Beach Post, all that stands in the way of the Miami Dolphins acquiring veteran quarterback, Trent Green, is a restructured contract. If all sides can work out a deal then the former Pro-Bowl QB will be sent to Miami in exchange for a 2007 7th round draft pick. The 36-year old QB was injured in the Chiefs' first game against the Cincinnati Bengals when he collided, head first, with Bengal's defensive end, Robert Geathers. He sat out majority of the season with that severe concussion and in his absence emerged Damon Huard. Huard threw for 1,878 yards, 11 touchdowns and just 1 touchdown. I know, impressive right? That hell of half season earned him the nickname "Meast" given to him by a huge group of followers(ok, just two people and Meast is short for Man/Beast, yeah, sounded much better right before I went into )

Trent Green was less than spectacular in his return, throwing for just 1,342 yards, 7 touchdowns and 9 interceptions in 8 games. The Dolphins want Green for another insurance policy for Daunte Culpepper, who rushed back from his injury(tore ACL, MCL, PCL and all the other "CL's") and was finally benched after 4 miserable games. It is still a suspect on whether Culpepper will be ready to go at the start of the 2007 season, and he should, I mean he's had almost two full years to recover. Green would likely get the starting job if he isn't ready to go over Cleo Lemon who started the Dolphin's final game.

Personally I prefer to throw down at the craps tables, buy hey, that's just me.

Late Sunday night at the Palms casino and resort in Las Vegas, newly signed Miami Dolphins outside linebacker, Joey Porter, got into a bit of a scuffle with Cincinnati Bengal's offensive tackle, Levi Jones.

"A fist fight between two NFL players broke out in the Palms casino on Sunday night, sources said. Joey Porter, an All-Pro linebacker who recently left the Pittsburgh Steelers to join the Miami Dolphins, brawled with Cincinnati Bengals offensive lineman Levi Jones, at about 6 p.m. at a blackjack table in the casino.

Jones, who suffered scratches, told Las Vegas police he would be filing charges against Porter. Sources said there has been bad blood between the two."

First of all, what kind of fight ends with just scratches? And second of all, a Cincinnati Bengal was in a fight, police were called and charges are being filed AND it's not against a Bengal? Wow.

Oh and I read this gem over at the NFL Fanhouse,

"According to a Vegas TV station, you don't get cited in Vegas for a fight unless a police officer actually sees it. So let that be a lesson: If you're going to get into a fight at a casino, look around to make sure no cops are watching."

So not only did they throw fisticuffs in a crowded casino with hundreds of cameras watching their every move, they did it in front of a cop. That is almost as dumb as blowing chunks out of the window when a cop is pulling you over for a suspected DWI, like that would ever happen. So all in all, what have we learned today? Well first apparently Joey Porter fights like catwoman, then, don't fight in front of the police(apparently they're not to keen on that) and finally we learned that I have horrible photoshopping skills.

Joey Porter is reportedly a dolphin.

According to WXPI.com,

The outspoken outside linebacker is on his way to South Beach. The complete details of the contract are immediately known but sources say that included into the deal is $24 million guaranteed and a $12 million signing bonus.

Although Joey Porter is 30 years old, he still has plenty of good years ahead of him. Porter will add more versatility to an already great defense with his ability to get to the quarterback. In 2006 Porter had 55 tackles, 7 sacks and 2 interceptions(1 returned for a touchdown). Add him to a defense that has the reining Defensive MVP(Jason Taylor), the greatness that is Zach Thomas, and with up and coming stars such as Channing Crowder and Matt Roth, this team appears to be on pace for a very successful 2007. Well defensively, obviously they still have some problems on the offensive side of the ball.

Porter said that his final choices were between the Miami Dolphins and the Cincinnati Bengals. Oh great, looks like we just missed out on adding someone that would help stop the comparisons to that of a defense of a 5th grade girl's flag football team. Oh well, hopefully Landon Johnson and Caleb Miller can up their play and hey maybe even Odell Thurman can avoid puking on Cops and getting suspended for the entire year. Oh and David Pollack is eye a return to the NFL after breaking his neck, hopefully he does well seeing as how he is one of my favorite defensive players.

Update: ESPN is now reporting that the deal is for 5-Year $32 Million. Also the guaranteed amount is $20M, not $24M as I mentioned earlier.

Miami Dolphins(6-10)

This latest review comes courtesy of Davey. I had been asking him for a couple of days to write one, because it's his favorite team and I felt it would be better for him to write the review.

2006 season: 6-10
Head Coach: Nick Saban (Has since moved on to Alabama)
Offensive Coordinator: Mike Mularkey
Defensive Coordinator: Dom Capers
Pro-Bowl: Jason Taylor (Defensive End), Zach Thomas (Linebacker)
Awards: Jason Taylor (Defensive Player of the Year)

Offense

The 2006 offensive unit was statistically one of the worst in Dolphins history. The team averaged 16.3 points-per-game, which was the lowest since 1967, the franchise's second year of existence.

At the start of the season, the offense was expected to do big things but as you know, a combination of injuries, sub-par play and bad play-calling led to a very disappointing season. Daunte Culpepper wasn't healthy enough to play and the fact that he was put into the line-up too soon, doomed the team from the get go. The offensive line was inconsistent and also had to deal with various injuries and guys like Chris Chambers and Randy McMichael just didn't play up to their standards. Sprinkle in Mike Mularkey's play-calling, and you get the

But with all the bad comes the good and there definitively was some good coming from this unit. Ronnie Brown missed 3 games due to injury but still managed to surpass 1000 yards and averaged 4.5 yards per carry while showing that he was well worth the 2nd overall pick in 2005.
In his absence, Sammie Morris also showed that he was capable of running the ball, and should Ricky Williams come back next year, the running game should be loaded.

Wes Welker also had a nice year, leading the team with 67 receptions and Marty Booker also had a decent year, leading the team in receiving yards and receiving touchdowns. Meanwhile, Vernon Carey also stepped up and started to show why he was a first round pick a few years ago and should be the foundation of this line for some years to come.

Defense

Miami is known for a hard-hitting, swarming defense and this season was no different. Dom Capers came in with his 3-4 schemes and players like Zach Thomas and Jason Taylor absolutely thrived. Thomas finished with 164 tackles and 3 sacks, while did just about everything possible in way to a dominant season and Defensive Player of the Year honors.

The defense as a unit finished 4th overall, allowing just 288 yards-per-game and 17.7 pp/g. In 2005, the unit finished ranked 17th overall, thus showing how well they performed in Capers' new schemes.

The defense does have it's question marks though. The fact remains that it's an aging unit and they need to get younger, especially on the defensive line. First round pick Jason Allen also didn't contribute as much as expected mostly because he held out and missed a big part of training camp. Hopefully Allen can work hard this off-season, get familiar with the defense and what is expected from him, and start showing why Miami used the 16th overall pick oh him.

Special Teams

Donnie Jones had himself a solid season, averaging 42.8 yards on his punts and getting 28 down inside the 20. Wes Welker was good returning kicks, getting 378 yards on punt returns and getting 1064 yards on kick-off returns, with an average of 22.2 yards.
Olindo Mare was less than stellar in the field-goal department this year. He was 26 out of 36 on his kicks while missing 3 in the 40-49 range and 5 in the 50+ range. Some of those misses came in key situations that really hurt the team and I for one am not that confident when I see Olindo line up for a kick anymore.

Draft Notes

Miami will be picking 9th overall this year and most projections have them taking a defensive lineman but now some others are predicting that Brady Quinn will be the pick if he's available. I'm not a big Brady Quinn fan so I'm hoping that this scenario won't play itself out. But odds are that Quinn will already be off the board by then and that coach Cameron will have to figure out if he's going to go with Daunte Culpepper, Cleo Lemon or maybe a free-agent like Jeff Garcia.

Positions that must be filled with the draft

1. Defensive tackle
2. Offensive tackle
3. Linebacker
4. Defensive end
5. Cornerback
6. Wide Receiver

DT:

Keith Traylor, Jeff Zgonina and Vonnie Holiday aren't getting any younger, so getting a stud defensive tackle in the first round would be very nice. Michigan's Alan Branch will probably be gone by then, but Louisville's Amobi Okoye would be a great fit. Miami still has young guys like Fred Evans, Kevin Vickerson and Rod Wright on the depth chart, so they could have a nice core on the defensive line to build on.

Offensive Tackle:

Vernon Carey finally started playing like we expected him to, but Damion McIntosh was downright horrible on the other side of the line. If Miami doesn't take a DT in the first round, offensive tackle could be the other position they look at with their first pick. Wisconsin's Joe Thomas will probably be gone, but someone like Penn State's Levi Brown could be a good pick.

Linebacker:

Zach Thomas and Channing Crowder are great, but next to those two, there isn't that much depth. Georgia's Tony Taylor and Florida's Earl Everett might be two guys that could fit nicely along with Thomas, Crowder and Derrick Pope.

Defensive end:

Jason Taylor is as good as they come but Kevin Carter is old. I have high hopes for Matt Roth but another defensive end should be added. Some early projections have Miami taking Arkansas defensive end Jamaal Anderson but if he's taken, Clemson's Gaines Adams could also be the pick here.

Cornerback:

Will Allen has one starting corner spot locked up, but I'd rather see Travis Daniels as the nickel back and someone else come in and challenge Andre Goodman for the other starting spot. I hold on to the dream that Miami can somehow pick up Nate Clements in free agency but I don't see it happening. Daymeion Hughes could be someone to get, or Ryan Smith from Florida.

Wide-Receiver:

This all depends if Wes Welker gets resigned. With Welker on board, Miami has Chambers, Booker, Welker, Derek Hagan and also Marcus Vick who could compete for some playing time. If Welker leaves, then they could look for another receiver in later rounds.

The one big question for this team remains the quarterback position. Will Cam Cameron stick with Culpepper, will C-Pep be ready to go? Will he give Harrington a shot or maybe Cleo Lemon?. This will be the biggest factor that decides if the team will be successful in '07 or not.

The offensive line should only get better under Hudson Houck and if Ricky Williams comes back to help Ronnie Brown share the load at running back, the running game should also be beyond good. The fact that Cam Cameron will be handling the offense now should also improve things a whole lot.

There's a new, offensive minded coach in place, there's one of the league's best defenses and a good running game. With a quarterback that can run the show, this is a team that challenge for the AFC East crown. Without a quarterback, it's likely to be a disappointing repeat of last season.
