Braves re-sign John Smoltz!!!

News just broke on ESPN, that the Braves have re-signed John Smoltz. It is said to be for a 2-year $14 million. I'll update as soon as it is official.

UPDATE:

It's official now, ESPN's Buster Olney is now reporting that Atlanta Braves and pitcher, John Smoltz have reached an agreement on a new contract.

As part of the agreement, Smoltz will receive $14 million in 2008. The deal includes a vesting option for the 2009 season that automatically kicks in if Smoltz pitches in at least 200 innings in 2008. There also is a team option for 2010.

Financial details for the 2008 and 2009 seasons are not yet known.

I for one am beyond excited over this news, it turned what was a slow, boring, off-day into a joyful celebration that will inevitably result in me being arrested for public nudity after being tackled by the St. Louis Police. I can't wait!

UPDATE #2:

This is from AJC.com's David O'Brien,

Ya’ll didn’t really believe Smoltz would leave, did you? Never even a sliver of doubt in my mind. Andruw, that’s a different matter altogether. But I never believed any of the B.S. rumors about “friends” who said he was disenchanted with the Braves and tired of their low-ball offers and blah blah blah.

He’ll retire a Brave. Just like Chipper will.
